When I was a kid my go-to Chinese food order was Sweet-and-Sour Pork. When I could get away with it I would lick the sauce straight out of the container. Now as a much healthier adult that has joined an array of food memories that are great in memory and inedible to me in actuality - too fatty, too sweet.
A few months ago I found myself contemplating what to do with some leftover pear-cardamom chutney. Crazy delicious but pretty sweet. My eye fell upon one of the many jars of OlyKraut in my fridge and I found myself thinking...hmmm... sour. I tried the combo and it was delicious! I have since had several friends skeptically receive a small serving and watched as consistently their eyes widen in surprise, they nod and finish the helping.
